If you have read some of my previous posts, I have shared a lot of great treatments and solutions for lower back pain right side. Among those great treatments and solutions are the use of hot and cold packs. Generally speaking, both of these packs do wonders for your back but one question that I get from most of you is which of the two is better?
To finally clear up this topic, I will be giving specific details of what exactly can you benefit from using either a hot or cold pack and which is better for your condition.
Benefits of Hot Packs for Lower Back Pain Right Side:
- Makes use of heat to stop the nerves that send the pain signals which relaxes them
- Draws blood towards the targeted tissues
- Your blood flow increases which gives nutrients and oxygen that is needed
- Takes away cell wastes
- Reduces your muscle spasms and relaxes your sore muscles
- Known to improve your range of motion (ROM)
Benefits of Cold Packs for Lower Back Pain Right Side:
- Makes use of coldness to stop the nerves that send the pain signals which numbs them
- Draws blood towards the targeted tissues
- Slows down circulation which reduces inflammation and muscle spasms
- Relaxes sore, tired, or strain muscles
As you can see both of these treatments are great for the pain your back. Both draw blood towards the targeted tissues which result to faster relief for the pain that you are experiencing. It sort of gives your brain a signal to focus on the particular area with the hot or cold pack. It is great in promoting healing for that area so that your suffering will come to an end.
Now comes the question, which of the two packs is actually better?
My answer to that would be “it depends”. Yes, it depends on how frequent and how recent the pain in your back came. For recent pains its best to apply cold packs while for pains that have been occurring for a while now should be treated with hot packs. By recent I mean back pains that hit you within the first 48 hours. The duration of application for both of the packs is typically around 15-20 minutes to really get the benefits. Then again, it’s best to think that the two packs complement each other. As your back pain starts, you apply cold packs and as days pass by you can switch to hot packs. Making use of these two simple treatments will surely make your life easier and help get rid of your lower back pain right side.
